FAQs on Christmas Cards

What should I write in my Christmas card?
Another tough year to try and compose a heartfelt Christmas message inside your Christmas card! We've outlined some great tips you can follow below and have written extensively on the top here on our blog if you should want to dig deeper (yes, there are examples and everything)!

  • Keep it short — space is limited so choose your Christmas wishes wisely.
  • Consider whether it is appropriate to acknowledge any difficulties your recipients have faced in 2023, but don't focus on it!
  • Do focus on something positive either that's already happened in 2023 or maybe something to look forward to in 2024.
  • Don't forget to wish them all a very Merry Christmas!

Feel free to include a list of top 10 things your family is most thankful for this Christmas season! Or use a collage photo Christmas card template to tell your family's story for the year or to highlight any big milestones. You could even reflect on your favorite Christmas quote.

You don't need to ignore the events of this year in your Christmas postcards — after all, it was a big year (or has it been a decade?) — but try not to dwell on the negatives! Keep up the Christmas spirit.
How To Address Christmas Cards?
Collecting mailing addresses to send Christmas cards can be accomplished in three easy steps using Postable's free online address book. After signing up, you'll receive a unique URL that leads to an online address request form, which you can customize and send to those you'd like to mail your Christmas postcards to. The recipients fill out this form and the information is stored in your online address book, which is free, secure, and designed to save time during the holiday season. And if your list is looking longer than you expected, we even have mass mailer tools to make the process of writing and sending your Christmas cards as easy as possible.
When to send out Christmas cards?
While domestic mail typically takes 3-7 days to get delivered, the holiday rush will impact this timeframe significantly. We'd suggest planning on a 14 day delivery time-frame starting in early December.

If you're ordering a box of Christmas greeting cards to get delivered to yourself first, give the box enough time to arrive AND then get mailed to the recipients. Order the box as soon as possible to give yourself plenty of time to write, address, stuff and mail the cards.

If you're choosing to have Christmas cards mailed for you with Postable — you can schedule your Christmas cards in advance (set em' and forget em') or simply give them around 14 days during the holidays*.
What size are Christmas cards?
If you’re designing your own photo Christmas card, keep in mind that the image resolution should be 300dpi and no greater than 30mb - and text should be at least 8px. If you choose a folding Christmas card, traditionally the dimensions are 5.5” x 4.25”. And for flat Christmas greetings cards, it’s usually 5” x 7”. Lastly, Christmas postcards are 6” x 4.25” on average.
What other types of customizations do you offer?
Many templates allow customizations of images and text changes to the front of the designs. You're also able to compose your own Christmas message on the inside of folded cards. The backs of the flat cards allow you to choose from 6 different customizable templates as well.

Now for this holiday season, you'll also have the option to use the holiday card builder to create your own customized Christmas cards from scratch.

Additionally, we offer envelope addressing free of charge! Simply upload your recipient list and choose the envelope option. You'll be able to choose from different handwritten fonts as well as 3 different colored envelopes.
What are your Christmas card prices?
Christmas card pricing varies depending on how many cards you send. Our pricing is based on volume, so the more merry Christmas cards you send the less you spend (pretty catchy right?). Generally speaking:

1 - 19 holiday cards = $3.99 each plus stamp 20 or more holiday cards = $3.45 each plus stamp

But keep an eye out for the special offers we'll be emailing you all season long!

  • Planning your season's greetings.

With so much going on this Christmas, planning ahead for your season's greetings this year will have an even bigger impact than years past. Getting ahead will definitely be the name of the game for anyone hoping to get their Christmas cards in the hands of their recipients by Christmas Day.

This just means a little preparation and planning of your Christmas postcards is in order. Here are some tips to get you ready to tackle the holiday season like a pro:
    • Get organized! Don't wait until the last minute to update your Christmas greeting card list.
    • Order your Christmas postcards in advance. If you're planning on ordering a box of cards to get delivered to yourself, make sure you give yourself plenty of time for the box to arrive AND time to address and mail out the cards. OR simply schedule with Postable when you want to mail your Christmas cards, and we’ll handle sending them for you.
    • Give your Christmas cards enough time to get delivered. While the holiday rush at the post office typically* slows mail time to around 14 days for domestic mail, it's very possible that this will be somewhat longer this year. Given the additional slow downs this year we'd suggest giving your cards at least 14 days to arrive. Want more details — check out our in depth explanation at when to mail Christmas cards.
